Hi from Athenaeum Library

Hi Emma,
Hope you are fine. We had our work Christmas lunch at St Kilda today. It was very pleasant. After the lunch I walked around St Kilda a bit with a couple of friends from work and then caught the tram up to the Athenaeum library. Normally I'm stuck at work in Clayton during the week and can't get here before it closes, so it is really nice to be able to visit apart from the Saturday morning. There is a book launch on here at the moment (not sure whose, I'll try to find out!) and there are a lot of people here drinking champagne and eating. Not the normal thing I see in a library, but nice to see all the same!
This is a picture of what the library looks like. (I got this image from their website, I don't think they'll mind me using on this blog!)
I must start my Christmas shopping tomorrow for you Em or I'll be too late. Hope your lead up to Christmas is going well and that you are having a lovely time.
Take care and thinking of you.
Lots of love,
Aaron xxx ooo

Numbat

Hi Em,
Grandma (or Mum as I call her!) sent me an early Xmas present that I thought you'd like to see. It is a donation on my behalf to help save the Australian Numbat. Don't you think it is just beautiful?

Lots of love,

What I'm reading

Hi again Em,
At the risk of boring you I'll use this blog to keep a note of what I am reading currently. It will be nice for me to keep a record and hopefully you might even find some good reading tips!

In Green's Jungles, by Gene Wolfe

This is the second book of the Short Sun series. I have just finished reading the first book called “On Blue's Waters” and that was wonderful. He is a wonderful writer of science fiction and fantasy. The series is set on a distant planet, where the writer is recounting his efforts to find a lost leader called Silk. There is a lot of depth to his writing and I'm sure I'm not picking up all his references but it is great fun to read.
I borrowed both of these from that wonderful library, the Athenaeum ( http://www.melbourneathenaeum.org.au/ ). I only discovered it about a month and a half ago. It is a beautiful, old building and one of my favourite places in Melbourne now.
Bye for now.
Lots of love,

Hi from Vic State Library

Hi Emma,
Hope you are fine. I finally got this blog software going (http://www.dokuwiki.org/dokuwiki). It is a lot easier to update than what I was doing before. All I need is an Internet connection. I'm at the Victoria State Library at the moment using their free wireless Internet.
Alex was at church this morning, which was great to see. He is my 99 year old friend that you will remember, I'm sure. He had a fall in his garden about a month ago and has spend time in hospital and respite recovering before he could return home. He is so happy to be back home. I normally spend Christmas day with Alex and Nancy, his sister, and he invited me again today. It is always a special time in Alex's wonderful, old house. I said that I will bring lots of food this year, so I had better get organised on what I will cook!
Hope you have some great plans for this Christmas, Em. I haven't started any Christmas shopping as yet but will do that next weekend.
Hope you are having a great time and will write again soon.
Lots of love,
Aaron xxx ooo
